TPMS

What is TPMS?

TPMS stands for Tyre Pressure Monitoring System which is a system of sensors that monitor tyre pressure and alert you via a warning light in your dash if it reports any low pressure or any tyre pressure imbalances. Since 2014, all new vehicles are automatically fitted with TPMS and TPMS testing has now become part of the MOT test so if your TPMS is defective your vehicle will fail its MOT.

Is TPMS worth having?

Vehicles with TPMS are without a doubt safer than those without as keeping your tyre pressure in check helps prevents the numerous accidents each year that are caused by incorrect tyre pressure. To keep you, your family and other road users safe, at DP Tyres we recommend having your TPMS regularly serviced at our workshop in Bryn, near Wigan. Also, correctly inflated tyres don’t only keep you safe but improve fuel efficiency and lengthen the lifespan of your tyres.

Where can I have a TPMS fitted?

At DP Tyres in Bryn, near Wigan, we can fit and programme new or replacement TPMS sensors which suffer from wear and tear just like any other vehicle component and will need replacing every few years. Sometimes your TPMS sensors can stop working because they are damaged or due to battery issues, whatever the problem our team is experienced and will resolve any issues that you are having with your TPMS.

My TPMS warning light has come on, what should I do?

The first thing you should do is to check your tyre pressure and if you find that one or more of your tyres is under-inflated, you can fill up with air at most petrol stations – the machines are pretty straightforward to use. Once the tyres have reached the correct pressure, the TPMS warning light should automatically reset. If it doesn’t reset, it could mean some other kind of problem with the system and in this instance, it’s best to get in touch with the team at DP Tyres so that we can have a look and assess the problem.

Of course, we know that not everyone is comfortable checking tyre pressure and inflating tyres, so if you’re near our workshop in Bryn, near Wigan, pop in and we’ll be more than happy to help you out.
